Acústica Marina and Pacific Mining Company Participate in ExpoNaval 2022

From November 29th to December 2nd, the XII ExpoNaval 2022 Exhibition and International Congress “Challenges for Maritime Condition in the 21st Century” took place. During this event, we participated alongside Pacific Mining Company (CMP), showcasing our interactive stand, which allowed us to present the work done by the transdisciplinary teams of both companies.

Recognition of Marcela Ruiz in the Tech Entrepreneur Category of the Women that Build Awards 2022

Globant deemed Marcela Ruiz the winner of the Tech Entrepreneur category at the Women that Build Awards 2022 in Chile.

This award is part of a Globant initiative aimed at reducing the gender gap by providing more visibility to women who create and contribute to making a significant impact in the technology sector.

The Tech Entrepreneur category, which Marcela Ruiz won, honors innovative women who are founders of tech startups or entrepreneurs offering services related to STEAM fields managed through e-commerce platforms.

Acústica Marina and Compañía Minera del Pacífico to Install the First “Smart Buoy”

At CMP’s Puerto Cruz Grande project, the first AI-powered “Smart Buoys” will be implemented. These buoys will detect marine wildlife and vessels through a Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance System (hydroacoustic MCV), generating real-time alerts focused on studying and conserving marine life.

This is the first port-mining initiative of its kind worldwide. By next year, four “Smart Buoys” are expected to be operational, with a total of ten planned for 2024 in the area to establish a monitoring network. This buoy network is a pioneering technology in both Chile and globally, designed to be scalable. It also presents the opportunity to create an acoustic soundscape, where visitors will be able to hear the sounds of the sea in a dedicated room that CMP will build and equip. This room will provide acoustic data for scientific and educational research for those visiting the area.

Acústica Marina as Part of the External Entities Associated with the FuSA System Project

Acústica Marina is one of the external entities associated with the project “Integrated System for Environmental Sound Source Analysis: FuSA System”, led by the Acoustics and Informatics Institutes of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at the Southern University of Chile.

Recently, researchers from these institutes secured funding for the FuSA System project through the Fondef Idea I+D 2020 Competition. This initiative results from collaboration with various companies and institutions with which previous projects, agreements, and joint research have been conducted.

The project aims to develop a system that integrates acoustic measurements of environmental sound sources with detection and classification analysis using deep neural networks.

The external entities associated with this project include the Ministry of the Environment and the companies VitGlobal, Gerard Acoustic Engineer, CAPTA, and Marine Acoustics.

“At Acústica Marina, we will provide information on underwater Sound Pressure Levels (SPL) and audio recordings from our underwater noise monitoring stations. This will allow us to contribute to the integration and public-private collaboration for R&D from our region, with a perspective of advancing technological development for the sustainable growth of our ecosystems.” — Marcela Ruiz, Executive Director of Acústica Marina
